Forty Dollar Kitchen Makeover

I was going to wait to do this post because I just did a before and after, but I just got too antsy!  As you know, we are in the midst of "redoing" our home.  The kitchen is one area that is constantly bugging me, mostly because I spend more time there than anywhere else.  This past weekend, on our DIY binge, we were visiting our local Lowe's store and decided to pick up a can of countertop paint.  We had talked about this before, but never got around to doing it and since we're going to replace the coutertops anyway, we thought, What do we have to lose?  So we went for it and I am personally loving the results!

BEFORE

AFTER

I removed the cabinet doors, which was obviously free.  The paint was $20.97, the brushes, etc. were about $10.00 and we bought a can of spray paint for the knobs, which was about $5.00, so it's actually a $35.00 kitchen makeover, but forty sounded better.

  3. Holy Moly! Whitney, my mom just sent me a note telling me about your kitchen transformation. She said it was amazing and I wholeheartedly agree! It's like the magic sunshine fairy flew in and whirled around three times and flitted out an open window. Bravo to you two!

I love your under-the-counter global inspired art collection and your yellow chandelier. Very hip.

I'm inspired to 'youthen' up my space with brighter colors and eclectic art.

  8. The countertop makeover is amazing! I have similar ones at home and have been looking for a quick fix on making it look better. Now that you've lived with the painted countertops, any tips on care/maintenance or are they still holding up well?

  9. bluefem- thank you!! painting the countertops was really simple. we did it one Sunday and haven't regretted it. i thought it would chip and scrub off but there hasn't been any significant wear. i always use cutting boards and don't generally let food sit on the counters- only because i'm paranoid about chemicals and the like. we have touched up a couple spots here and there, but overall, i'm very happy with the durability.

  10. Hey! Love the makeover. It's super inspiring! Just a quick question: in this post your Kitchenaid Mixer is industrial silver. In the Apartment Therapy post, it's sunflower yellow-orange and looks smaller. Which one is truly yours? And which model do you love? I'm an avid baker and have begun shopping for my very first mixer! Any advice you have would be lovely!

  11. Krystina- Thanks for your interest. The silver one was my mom's that I had borrowed for a while because I bake a lot. The yellow one I received as a gift in May, after the pictures were taken. They're actually both Artisan mixers and I use mine ALL the time- it's fantastic. BUUT, if I had to do over (with a little extra money) I would get the Professional, especially if you will use it a lot. One thing to consider, I don't know that the Professional will fit on the counter under standard cabinet height. I would check the dimensions if storage is an issue-it's definitely something to think about.

  13. What a difference some paint makes! Just wondering where you got the amazing yellow chandelier? My kitchen theme is grey, white and yellow and I'm love to replace our hideous white fan with a sunny yellow chandelier!
